Fifteen Die as Greyhound Bus Crashes and Bursts Into Flames
A Greyhound bus from Indianapolis to Evansville struck a bridge abutment near Bloomington Indiana and exploded in flames killing 15 passengers including two children. Driver Wayne Cranmer saved many by braving the fire and pulling out the injured, though he was burned. Thirteen bodies were removed with acetylene torches. a temporary morgue was set up in Bloomington. The cause remained undetermined though a tire blowout was considered possible.

New York August 10 The Dun and Bradstreet wholesale food price index rose to 5.89 from 5.84 the prior week yet remained 18 percent below the 7.18 level a year earlier. The index covers wholesale cost of 31 commonly used foods with gains in flour hams bellies cheese coffee cottonseed oil cocoa beans eggs potatoes currants steers and hogs and declines in wheat corn rye oats barley lard butter and lamb.
