Four Injured In Accident Near Maynard

Four Idlowans injured in a two vehicle crash near Maynard on Tuesday night. John T Buckman, 23, sustained back injuries. Rob Ye, with a dislocated elbow and fractured right clavicle. Beverly Clancy, 18, of Lans ing, suffered a severe head injury. The car slid down a bank and rolled over landing upright. Verdon and Buckman remained inside as three others were thrown clear. Damage to the auto was extensive. charges may be filed.

New Sewage Wiring Ordinance Considered by City Council

The city council briefly studied ordinances tightening sewage and wiring requirements and requiring city engineer inspections. After further study proposals will go to the plan commission to be finalized before passage. The ordinances would affect new buildings and remodeling.

West May Hold Big Four Meeting If Soviet Proposals Arise

The note to the Soviet ambassador by Secretary of State George Marshall urged new Soviet proposals for a foreign ministers meeting. Britain agreed to the Soviet proposal, France has not yet answered, and Marshall suggested informally that the Big Four might inform the UN secretary general of failure to reach agreement if no new ideas emerged. Russia proposed a pre Paris ministers meeting to settle the Italian colony issue, but initial Western reaction was negative before they softened to consider the suggestion.

Fayette and three neighboring counties Buchanan Clayton and Bremer surpassed their quotas in the 1948 Iowa cancer drive led by E B Shawn and Walter G Voecks. Russell Smid Rites At Cicero Thursday

Granddaughter of Theodore Roosevelt Weds on Long Island

Kermit Roosevelt, aged 20, daughter of the late president’s family, married Alexander Barmine in a private ceremony at Northport Long Island. Surrogate Richard W Hawkins performed the double ring union at a Rotary luncheon and the news was confirmed by the couple's parents Archibald and Mrs Roosevelt. The ceremony time and place remained undisclosed due to Mrs Roosevelt illness.

Report 50 Dead in Caribbean Sinking

Reports from Cartagena indicate 50 died when the Honduran motorship Euzkerra sank in the Caribbean on September 1. The Caribe rescued nine passengers and eight crewmen from a lifeboat about 120 miles from Cartagena. Survivors said the vessel overturned and went down around 2 a.m. a week ago, leaving only time for lifeboat launches.
