Maynard First Presbyterian Celebrates Centennial

Maynard Iowa church marks 100 years with 10 a.m. worship led by Rev. Robert Taylor and a communion service. Afternoon program featured greetings, history, and a 1:30 p.m. tribute to past pastors. Two hundred guests from across the U.S. attended, with committees listed and Rev. William Niles as current pastor.

Iowa plans to publish speeding trucker names

State Safety Commissioner Charles Larson proposed listing names of speeding truckers and their firms to federal and state regulators. Through July 30 Iowa troopers arrested 9,396 truck drivers for speeding, with ICC hearings possibly affecting a firm's operating authority. Larson aims to create an automated system and share data with ICC and Iowa Traffic Rate Board.

Powell to address Iowa press group clinic

Jody Powell, former Georgia governor Jimmy Carter's press secretary, will address the Iowa Daily Press Association Clinic. More than 500 newspaper professionals from across the state are expected to attend Saturday evening to hear Powell discuss national politics, as the three day event runs Friday through Sunday at the Howard Johnson Motor Lodge.

Cole to be reassigned to Nellis Air Force Base Nevada. They also visit Mrs Cole's parents in Oelwein. Lenard Canfield and family host Darrel Lynn Leslie and Duane. others visit Roy Canfield in Fairbank. Lee Drewelow and family spend weekend in Des Moines for the Iowa State Fair, camping at Cutty Camp Grounds. LaVerne Short of Oelwein visits. Lenard Canfield and family also visit. Glenn Short and daughter Karen stay with Frank and Jan Giarraffa in Creve Coeur Missouri from Thursday to Monday. William Follmer visits Ervie Ehler. Heath family members Kenneth, Steven and Charles spend time in the Amana Colonies touring mills shops and stores and dining at the Amanas.

Junior High Launches Two Week Magazine Campaign

Junior High students began a two week magazine campaign on Tuesday September 6 canvassing Oelwein Hazleton and Stanley areas for new subscriptions and renewals. School officials note this is the sole fund raising event with receipts used for school activities. Parkside school set a record with perfect attendance for two consecutive days across all grades including kindergarten. Junior High Parent Advisory Council met after school on Tuesday.

Pre-school to Open September 7 for Four-Year-Olds
