In Calmar South Winneshiek defeated Valley of Elgin 51-38 as guard Nancy Ira av held Valley scorer Val Potrick to 22. South Winn led 27-20 at halftime and 39-36 after three. In the nightcap Valley barely lost 56-57, with John Humpal leading Valley 24 and Larry Novak 18 while Dave Woods had 16 for Valley and Gary Larson 15, Bob Strong 10 for SW.

Decorah edges Postville in JV wrestling thriller

Decorah wrestlers edged Postville 27 to 26 in a tight meet with six falls including four straight pins. Kent Schultz pinned Hovey in 43 seconds at 155 pounds and Dennis Kelly pinned Rucker at 167. Flaherty pinned Neuhring at 185 and Hughes pinned Molumby at heavyweight to seal Decorah’s victory. JV alsoDecorah won 27-25.

Wapsie Valley built an 18-0 lead and held on to defeat Oelwein 30-28 on the mat. Craig Whitehill Rustie Kane and Jay Risse opened with falls, Jack Wenz edged Dick Neunsinger 7-6 for a 21-6 lead, and Pat Barker pinned Dan Beevers to stretch the margin.
