New High School Basketball Rule Reduces Free Throws
Iowa boys basketball opens season Friday November 17 with a change to common fouls. Free throws are removed and the ball awarded out of bounds until the bonus rule kicks in, cutting game time by about three to four minutes. Players must raise one hand when fouling and keep it down to avoid a technical foul. The three second rule now applies only when the ball is in the front court.
