White House abandons civilian control plan for Germany

Funeral Tomorrow For Arlington Man
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 9 30 a m at Wadena Catholic church for Clem Moran 62 Arlington who died unexpectedly Sunday at the home of his daughter Mrs Kathryn Maze Horton. Burial will be at Elkader. Mrs Maze had been visiting Arlington and her father took her home when he was stricken. He had suffered from a heart ailment for two and a half years. Besides his daughter he is cared for by his wife and one of her daughters.

Iowa flood danger eased as waters receded with little rain expected. Oakville and Wapello areas saw over 600 acres of new wheat ruined after a levee break on the Town river, with four families evacuated. Levees near Wapello and Columbus Junction were reinforced as rivers fell. The Iowa river neared 15 feet at Oakville and Ottumwa’s Des Moines River crest reached about 145 feet, far below last year’s peak. About 59 to 60 people evacuated from central and Black Hawk districts.
