Rent Bill on State Offices Takes Jump
A Des Moines report shows Iowa state office rents rising over the past year. The Iowa Tax Commission paid $360 to $960 yearly for Cedar Rapids space and $360 to $600 for Waterloo. Des Moines main office rent rose from $34,000 to $48,000 annually since 1947. Liquor stores statewide also renewed leases with most increases of five to ten dollars per month. The executive council approves all state building leases and a March 16 meeting will discuss a new $4 million state office building with a six member legislative committee.

Hazardous device explodes outside Haifa building
A 400 pound barrel bomb exploded outside the former municipal building in Haifa s Arab quarter causing a serious incident with 11 to 16 dead and 16 to 50 wounded. Officials later reported 16 dead and 50 injured. Authorities tentatively identified the bombers as members of a stern Jewish underground group.

Funeral services are set for Friday at 2 p m at the Methodist church in Fayette for Joan Hildebrant who died Tuesday in a La Crosse hospital.
