Alarm System Earliest Warning Ties Cities to Sheriff Base
In 1968 citizen band radios linked to the Charles City sheriff base station enable rapid warnings when a sighting is reported. The system relies on constant watch and readiness to respond, otherwise the EOO's creation would be in vain. Also noted is the death of Mrs. Alice Zummak, 60, of Oelwein, with funeral arrangements set at Brant Chapel. Surviving are husband Albert Zummak, two sons, Raymond and Richard, six grandchildren, and three sisters.
