Descent of Settlers Honor Tiny Iowa Chapel
About 200 relatives of John Gartner and Frank Joseph Huber gathered at St. Anthony of Padua chapel near Festina, the smallest church in the world. The event, officiated by Father Drummy, featured a Holy God hymn and a picnic, with attendees from Hawkeye and many states. The little chapel, 14 by 20 feet with a 540 foot high belfry, honors St. Anthony and sits beside graves of the founders and kin, a pilgrimage site for old settlers across the United States.
