Congress May Boost Amtrak Funding Again
Congress moves to provide 225 million in new federal grants and 150 million in guaranteed loans for Amtrak with Senate House conferees approving a compromise. The plan limits Amtrak salaries to 60 thousand dollars a year, ties future pay to profits, and requires Amtrak to operate and control rail passenger service while seeking to raise revenues via mail and express business. The weather section notes partly cloudy skies with a chance of a Thursday thundershower and temperatures near 90.

McGovern Sees Four Primary Wins Boosting Miami Beach Bid
McGovern told reporters that the four victories likely set the stage for winning in Miami Beach and planned talks with Humphrey in days ahead. Humphrey left for Houston to meet Democratic governors who spoke with McGovern late Monday night as Nixon swept California delegates. New Mexico’s results gave Wallace a strong showing with proportional delegate allocation, McGovern leading with 33 percent and Wallace at 30 percent with Humphrey at 26 percent. Melcher town marshal Urban denies resignation claim
MELCHER I AAP Matt Urban says he did not intend to resign as Melcher town marshal after tearing off his shirt and badge and tossing them on the council table. He warned against treating any resignation as official and said he would not work to allow cooling down. The dispute followed a 4-1 council vote denying his $200 monthly raise amid a hostile petition over his gun permit. Sheriff Lee Shives refused Urban a gun permit, deeming him irresponsible. Urban called the dispute over the permit "stupid" and said a resignation would only come in writing to Mayor Donovan Pack.
