Interstate Power Company filed with the Iowa State Commerce Commission for an electric rate rise effective July 1, 1971. The average residential increase runs about 8 percent, with variations by class and usage. the typical residential impact is under 5 cents per day. IPC cites environmental costs, labor, taxes, high interest, and a large five decade construction budget as drivers, and notes a 1951 rate rise was the last.
