A de Nazification court found Emmy Goering guilty of Nazi era profiteering and sentenced her to a year in a labor camp but released her after determining she had already served 14 months awaiting the hearing. The court also ordered 30 percent confiscation of Hermann Goering’s widow’s property.

Banquet Tonight Honors Retiring CGW Railroad Men
Three retired Chicago Great Western employees in Oelwein will be honored at a Legion ball banquet. W W C Cade Charles V Coggins and Dan Huskey total 126 years in railroading with 107 years of company service. Coggins joined in 1923 as tool room supervisor and retired 1948. Cade began in 1905 and retired 1948. Huskey started 1908 and retired 1927.

Former Resident C. F. Griffith Dies in Chicago
C F Griffith 1533 E 71st Place Chicago died July 20 after a long illness. A former Celwein resident he moved to Chicago in 1932 and served as chief engineer at the power house for the Chicago Great Western railroad. Survived by wife and son Robert of Chicago. Funeral services set for Thursday at 2 0 pm.

First Park Established Here in Oelwein 1906
Oelwein began public park development in 1906 after purchasing 54 acres south of the city lake. The Wing’s Park expansion, 16 acres from S W Johnson, and later additions brought total park land to 115 acres. By 1934 the Redgate Park area reached 34 acres, with 10 000 in donations and labor this spring enhancing three city parks for all ages.
