Helpless Iowans Natch Sons Crown
A Hansell farming couple stood by helplessly yesterday as their two young sons Billy Rule, eight, and Jackie Rule, nine, drowned in West Fork Creek north of Hansell. The parents attempted to rescue them and nearly drowned until Robert Rule, the uncle, pulled them to safety. Jean Fredericks, 19, a neighbor, recovered the bodies about a half hour later.

Stone Baby Born to Japanese Woman in Two-Year Pregnancy
MIYAZAKI Japan a 39 year old Japanese mother recently gave birth to a stone child after nearly two years of pregnancy. The fetus was delivered by Caesarean operation and was said to be solid stone in appearance though its skin and hair looked normal. The infant weighed about a pound and a half.

Funeral services were held at St Olaf Lutheran church in West Union for Harry Nesvick 21 killed May 15 in a tractor accident on Honshu island Japan. He enlisted in 1944, served one year, then re enlisted for three. Born April 6 1926 he was survived by his father Peter Ossian and brother Leslie of Indianapolis. His mother had predeceased him.

From Tocal News Teal, the Rasmussen home hosted guests over the last three days. Mr and Mrs George Girdler and their daughter of Indianapolis were shipmates of Leo Rasmussen in New Zealand in 144. Rasmussen married a New Zealand woman there, and Girdler brought his New Zealand fiancée to the United States where they were married. Both men served six years in the navy. The Girdlers will also visit one bos shipmate and his New Zealand wife in Minnesota before returning home.

Iowa Old Age Relief Grows in July Payments
State welfare figures show old age assistance totalled 1,986,916 to 48,381 recipients in July, up 18,484 from June. Aid to the blind rose to 1,223 recipients receiving 57,405, while dependent children aid reached 146,480 across 4,235 cases. Polk County posted the highest old age average at 45.89 for 4,237 people. Shelby County had the lowest at 35.04 for 194 people.
