13 Die in Army Plane Crash Near Meridian

Arrested Magazine Salesman Charged With Check Forgery
Thomas H. Johnson alias Reginald Burkett, 17, of Cleveland Ohio, was jailed in West Union as county officials prepared charges for forgery after a forged $1b check surfaced in Fayelle County. Also arrested were two other magazine salesmen, Lemounet of Arlington Virginia and Stephenson of Crawfordsville Indiana, but they were released to Waterloo for employer contact. Johnson had deserted the U S Army in January.

The youths admitted they were bored and drove to Manning where they pretended to shoot a boy with blank cartridges and dumped the body before fleeing town.
Oldest U.S. Woman Mamie Nelson Dies at 123
In Houghton Michigan Mrs Mamie Nelson died yesterday claiming to be the United States' oldest living person at 123. Born February 3, 1825 in Ireland she recalled Lincoln's assassination. She and husband settled in Hancock, Michigan seventy years ago. Nelson died in 1925.
