W Boland, a Cedar Rapids real estate and cattle dealer, identified Serjeant Richard OLeary as the uniformed army officer who hired a truck to take seven government horses from the Rock Island arsenal last September. Authorities say OLeary is a Marion Taylor, an army deserter, held for federal trial for impersonating an officer. Boland said the sergeant hired him to move the horses to Saher, but no one in Iowa City recalled the animals or OLeary when Boland reached Rock Island or returned.

Station employee killed by car near Bedford

Geneva, IL Feb 14 Two attendants at St Charles state home for boys were charged with the murder of 16 year old James Williams of Chicago who authorities say was beaten fatally with a police fight stick and a rubber hose nozzle. Charles G Seidel Kane County states attorney said Adams 33 and Laird 25 admitted use of a heavy paddle hose and other implements in a brutal punishment. The victim died yesterday after a daylong assault following a dispute over coal shoveling. Both attendants were held without bond pending grand jury hearing.
