Ed Bulthuis, an experienced photographer, will open a new studio on May 3 on the second floor of the Penney building in Oelwein. He brings fresh equipment and controlled lighting, having moved from Waterloo. A Parkersburg high school graduate, Bulthuis served 22 months in the Army with the Sixth TD Group, 18 overseas, and studied at Iowa State Teachers College after his 1946 discharge.

Brenneman the Breakfast in Hollywood MC Dies at 48
Brenneman, popular Encino radio host and Encino mayor, died of a heart attack at his home just before his daily show. More than 600 waited outside his Hollywood restaurant for the program which was cancelled. he had just returned from a doctor-recommended vacation. He led the long-running audience participation program featuring a congratulatory orchid and kiss to the eldest woman. The show later became a film with him in the lead. he also ran a Hollywood restaurant and owned a two-acre Encino estate.

Troop 49 Wins Scout Trophy At Court of Honor
Troop No 49 sponsored by Sacred Heart church of Oelwein won the traveling trophy at the Maynard Court of Honor, gathering the most points from their members parents and friends. Troop No 74 was second with others from Oelwein Stanley and Westgate present. Several boys earned tenderfoot and second class awards and merit badges. A film of a week at Camp Ingawanis closed the program.

K C Knights Vote To Supply Catholic Paper To Schools
At the Knights of Columbus meeting it was voted to send a Catholic archdiocesan news paper to all public schools and libraries in Oelwein West Union and Fairbank and to a special group of families. The kittenball team is under way with 18 new uniforms ordered and plans to play surrounding councils and in summer tournaments. A Grafenwehr Military Post letter from Germany thanked for 18 parcels sent by the KC. 1,100 people were clothed before Christmas. A drive for aid clothing in November drew a good response. State convention set for Des Moines May 23 to 25. Grand Knight L C Kuper and Chancellor Clifford Stirk will attend as delegates.
