Roxas Dies After Cerebral Hemorrhage at Clark Field
Manila April 16 former Philippine president Manuel Roxas died at Clark Field at 10 PM after fainting in the sun while pledging support to the United States. He was 56, had been moved to Santo Tomas hospital, and was survived by his wife and mother. Roxas, elected April 23, 1946, was the last Philippine Commonwealth president and first president of the republic after independence on July 4, 1946. He was born in Capiz on Panay island and held earlier posts including provincial governor.
