The Oelwein Welcome Wagon group led by Mrs. Richard Krause supports newcomers through visits, maps, and gift coupons. Members organize service projects, guest speakers like Fayette County Attorney Walter Saur, social events, and fund drives for the ambulance. Sponsors include local businesses and services.

Democratic Women club members met at Luigi's Restaurant Tuesday night. The SHJH students, led by instructor Mrs. Raymond Barry, presented speeches that earned top ratings at a district event. Participants included Steve Bruner Julie Guffy Mike Harrington Tim O'Brien and others. Madeleine Sell chaired the business meeting.

Rainbow Girls initiate candidate in Masonic Temple ceremony

Rainbow Girls begin candidate Sandy Dancer in ceremonies at the Masonic Temple on Tuesday night. A roller skating party for the Gayla at Independence was planned with invited members of DeMoiny Boys and the Independence Assembly. Grand assembly dates and speakers were announced for June in Davenport. Debbie Goode reminded members of the April 27 meeting at 4 pm. Hawkeye Senior Citizens elected officers at an April 12 meeting. next gathering May 3 with a 4 pothick dinner at the Legion hall.

Born Losers Weight Club Hosts Weekly Contest

The Born Losers Weight Club met Tuesday night with Mrs. Guy Walker. Five members reported a three and a half pound loss and a two pound gain. Becky Bowers was named queen for the week. Gainers from last week provided entertainment. The next session will be April.

Open house to honor Mrs Rippen in Arlington

Arlington notices mark the 78th birthday of Mrs Lois Rippen with an open house at Arlington Methodist church parlors from 2 to 4 pm on Sunday April 18. A short program is planned at 2 pm. She has lived in Arlington most of her life and is active in church work and community groups.

Southside PTA schedules spring events and talent program

Southside PTA met to plan events including a May 21 student talent program with Eben Schwartz and his daughters Connie and Debbie performing guitar and vocals. Kathy Spence sang a solo and the Madrigal group directed by Don Malloy performed four pieces. The final meeting is May 10. an executive session was set for April 19. Mrs. Howard Meaney and the third grade mothers served lunch.

Homemakers Plan May 13 Breakfast Event

Homemakers meeting with Mrs. Fred Barrack included ten members answering roll call and a plant and seed exchange. Prizes went to Mrs. Jim Barrack and Mrs. Clair Bigelow. secret pal birthday gifts were given to Mrs. Leland Smith and Mrs. Willard Weber. Lunch was served. the May 13 gathering will be a morning breakfast at Elsie Turner’s home with a May basket exchange among members.

Grace United Methodist Church hosts the annual mother daughter banquet with Vacationland USA as the theme. The event takes place Tuesday April 27 at 6 PM. Adult tickets are 1.50 and children 12 and under 60 cents, available from Mother's Club members or Mrs Darwin Jack, chairman.
