Neighbors Help With Farm Work Near Hawk Eye
Forty men from the area aided William Hay’s farm five miles north of Hawk Eye after his fall at a granary left both wrists broken. Ten tractors and ten manure spreaders were used to finish spring work by noon. The group cleared corn, hayed fodder, husked corn, and rebuilt fencing while John Graham of West Union hosted a supper and ice cream, with Mr. Hay providing beer.
