Fatal Fireworks Trample and Panic at Chicago Celebration

Tragic double murder suicide arouses Somerset community

In Jefferson Township near Somerset Pennsylvania Jacob D. Shankis, a 60 year old farmer, was found hanged in the yard. His wife lay fatally shot nearby. Detectives arrested his two stepsons David and George Shaulis on suspicion of aiding the crime and inheritance motive.

Death of National Democratic Committee Chairman William H. Barnum

Hon. William H. Barnum, chairman of the National Democratic Committee, died at Lime Rock New Haven County at 9 45 yesterday morning after a brief decline. He had been bedridden only two or three days and grew weaker after a campaign sickness. He spent Friday afternoon on the piazza before a final collapse Saturday.
