Dr Trevonian Haight a Newark physician died at Essex County Insane Asylum after nine years with a gunshot wound from a pistol in the right temple that passed through to the frontal lobe. Surgeons removed portions of the ball and he later worked as an examining physician for a life company before mental illness led to asylum confinement.
A storm swept southwestern part of a parish causing multiple injuries and deaths. Chapmen Guidey and Prevost families suffered wrecked homes. Thomas Guidey and his son lost arms. Lavergins child died. Bourgeois family injured. three brothers losing their store and goods scattered for miles. About a dozen houses and many outbuildings demolished. Path three hundred yards wide.

Mary Tuekins a tall gaunt colored woman aged 117 died here tonight. She recalled clearly the visit to this country by the Prince later King William IV of England and claimed to have done his laundry in Quebec. She was well preserved and very active.
Sixteen year old Bellevie resident George Toom ey, employed at the cultivator works, was fatally injured when caught in the machine belting. He was hurled around the shafting, suffering broken legs and a torn right arm, and died shortly after.
Eight year old daughter of J C Allison died from clothing catching fire at a grate in Georgetown Pa. in Werpsville. An older sibling died in the same manner eighteen months earlier.
Marehti Miss Louisa M. Alcott author of novels died in Boston this morning after a lingering illness. She had been ill for several weeks and never recovered from the shock of her father’s death Sunday morning. She was fifty six years old.

Five men were instantly killed at nine o'clock tonight in the Cleveland Mine at the No. 5 shaft. They were at the bottom of the shaft when a gas pocket was charged with dynamite and heated to straighten a drill pipe. The charges exploded as they adjusted the pipe, killing all five men instantly in a horrific mangling accident.
In Kansas City Missouri March 5 the coroner's inquest into the Midland Hotel accident shows that several iron plates in the structure were smaller than drawings. It is likely the blame will be located and the case presented to the grand jury.
State Senator Vickers of Pitushuruy Kansas was taken into U S Marshal custody on a charge of selling liquor with illegal gambling tied to a man named Sawyer. The pair reportedly operate a saloon and gambling house on the state line near Pittsburg, with the bar in Missouri and the gambling house in Kansas.

Wash Hanna buried his daughter with her gold watch and valuables in a metal coffin and placed two pounds of dynamite above it to deter grave robbers. After his wife’s death, fear of explosion hindered digging a new grave and kept people away from the churchyard services. The incident drew wide attention to the safety measure.
A party of thirty young men and women traveling by omnibus to a Kingsbridge hotel supper and dance fell forty feet down an embankment. All survived though Minnie O'Neil and Annie May suffered back contusions and were hospitalized. The remainder returned home.
