Roxville Tennessee September 17 Charles Lillings wife a mountaineer in Ashe County North Carolina twenty eight miles from the railroad has astonished locals by bearing six babies in one birth. The infants weigh four and a half to nine pounds and are all alive. Mrs Billings is 6T years old with four older children born individually. Billings survives on wild game and fish.

Gosseth Casty, who was shot in the left cheek months ago, has nearly recovered but now complains of throat soreness. Friday morning while coughing the bullet was expelled from his mouth with difficulty and was described as indented on both sides and large enough to tear his head off.
Secretary Foster received the signed agreement from steamship companies promising not to ship any more immigrants to the United States. The notice followed several telegrams urging a quarantine of ninety days for all immigrants from Europe.
In the past 24 hours at least thirty suspected cholera cases were reported by the health department. Mrs Maria Svosati, an Italian resident of 42 East 11th street, who was listed as ill with cholera last night, was examined and found not to have the disease.

A Saturday morning blaze at the Brooklyn navy yard wrecked the three story wormen extension housing the Cincinnati cruiser machinery. The fire spread to the two story brick shop and main building, causing about half a million dollars in damage. The Cincinnati’s machinery was completed and tested, with launch set for October 26.
Cortland Van Trensselaer recalls deceits by Hamburg America officers aboard the Normannia and Cepheus voyage. He reports being assured no steerage passengers from infected ports would be taken, despite concern and sickness aboard. His wife suffered greatly during the crowded crossing and he vows not to Europe soon.
Carrolt Michigan September 19 Dalin of Chicago vice president and general manager of the Atlantic and Pacific Construction Co outlines an airline railroad from New York to San Francisco. The project would cut 800 plus miles, grading to start in 1893 and the entire line to operate in 1200. New York to Chicago division priced at 160 million dollars and Chicago to San Francisco end at 509 million dollars.
In Baltimore on September 19 Rear Admiral W S Wells reported a 2000 plus rise in naval veterans membership over the year. A resolution was presented urging the president to stop immigration for ten years until current newcomers are naturalized and obey health laws.
In Weho, Sept 20, a dedication ceremony honored Grand Army Place near the White House. Vice President Morton and Commander-in-Chief Palmer attended a crowded plaza with 1,500 onlookers as Rev. J. B. Payne led prayers and Palmer spoke of reunion, loss, and shared service among veterans. Morton offered greetings on behalf of the nation, praising Union history and the fallen comrades who could not be present. The event concluded with unfurling the tall staff and a Marine Band rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.

A silver eight foot statue of Justice valued at 250000 will be exhibited at the World’s fair with a $250000 gold pedestal. Sculptor R H Park to be paid 10000. Miss Adah Behan will model. Casting aimed for 1893. statue features Justice on a globe with gold and silver balances and a sword.
Col Ross Ward a cog road conductor built a crude toborgan on the cog rails from the signal house summit to Manitou a nine mile run. He wagered 25 dollars he could make the trip in fifteen minutes. Ward completed it in eleven minutes and fifteen seconds without incident.
The second season of the Southern League closed with Birmingham winning the pennant after a close race with New Orleans. A decisive two-game sweep of Montgomery and Mobile's Tuesday victory over New Orleans settled the coin test in favor of Birmingham. Macon and Mobile were among other contenders.
