Oden businessman O. E. Pershing proprietor of the Pershing poultry packing plant married Ada Hedden Saturday evening at Pershing’s North Spring Street home. Ceremony conducted by Rev. C. M. Day of the Christian church. They will reside on North Spring Street.

James Edmondson of Binnkenship, in town about two weeks, forged five checks at local stores Wednesday. He bought a watch from Bert Jolliff with a check drawn on John Edmondson for 22.50 and cashed checks at Barkleys 89.50 Payne & Stotts 15 C A Pickett 10 and Dicks 10. Edmondson hired a livery rig and vanished toward Kaglesville. horse returned to barn. Bert Jolliff and others went to Vincennes to locate him.
The United Brethren conference at Corydon last week announced ten ministerial appointments with W. E. Snyder and J. L. Brandenburg chosen presiding elders. J. A. Garriott will pastor Odon replacing L. L. Schoonover who moves to Vincennes. Delegates to the Decatur Illinois general conference were named, and district appointments listed across Corydon and Washington districts with clergy assigned to towns and churches. There are three United Brethren conferences in Indiana White River St Joseph and Indiana with the latter comprising thirty seven counties.
Isaac Boyd a longtime resident of Madison township died at his home northwest of Odon last Friday night at eleven. He was 73 having celebrated his birthday last June. Mr Boyd came from Ohio in the 1860s and leaves a wife and son Albert S Boyd of Madison township. Funeral at Good Hope church Sunday at 2 pm with Rev Hayden Allen of Washington First Methodist in charge. Interment at Walnut Hill.
John Lentz twelve year old son of Nicholas Lentz of Van Buren township died last Sunday afternoon from diphtheria. Burial took place Sunday evening at St. Michael. The disease is prevalent in the area with four more family members ill.
Governor Hiram Y. Johnson of California, Progressive nominee for vice president, arrived in Washington by special train over the E I and spoke from the rear of the train at east Third street to a large crowd at 3 15 PM. Progressives from Daviess county met the train at Petersburg and joined the southern Indiana trip before continuing to Mitchell.
Wallace Smiley announces a regular annual piano tuning trip to Odon from Tuesday September 24, remaining until all work is completed. The note urges yearly attention to prevent injury, stressing lower cost and better condition when tuned. Contact Mrs Ol Crooke by telephone.
Mrs. John Lavely, a well known El Noro resident about twenty six, died Tuesday night at her mother's home due to tuberculosis. She leaves four children. Funeral services were held at the home yesterday afternoon with Rev. W. A. Ross officiating. Burial followed at New Bethel cemetery.
Four Montgomery business houses were broken into late Tuesday night or early Wednesday. Losses exceed one hundred dollars with items stolen including whiskey from theMort McPherson drug store three dozen knives and FAZOTS plus revolvers from the Daily hardware store. Fanning & Healy hardware stock untouched. Inventory pending to determine exact jewelry store loss.
The new Parcels Post becomes effective January 1 1912 and changes parcel rates. Daviess county farmers may have packages delivered or sent for five cents per pound instead of sixteen. Zones determine cost with about eight cents to Kansas nine to Texas eleven to California and higher for other destinations. Weight limit is eleven pounds and length plus girth cannot exceed seventy two inches. Packing methods will be prescribed. A flat rate of one cent per ounce applies up to four ounces. above four ounces rates are by the pound or fraction thereof.

Jacob Winklepleck of Odon died at his West Main street home Tuesday morning at four after a period of illness. He was born in Daviess county, 43 years old, son of George and Rosa Winklepleck, a town teamster in recent years. Funeral held Wednesday at Chapel Cemetery on Bunkum Road at 10 a.m.
A simple wedding was held Tuesday night at Rev J W Gilley home in Washington uniting Elizabeth Gilley and James Utterback. After the ceremony light refreshments followed then the couple left for a week in Atlantic City. They will reside in Elizabeths fathers house after he moves to Plainville. Mrs Utterback is the daughter of Rev J W Gilley a prominent church official and Utterback is a well known railroad fireman on the Illinois division.
Frederick J. Freshley of Plainville faced liquor violations in circuit court. The jury deliberated all night and could not reach a verdict, leading to a hung jury and discharge.
London Globe reports Le Mans councillors named a street after Wilbur Wright drawing wide approval yet locals struggle with pronunciation. A French contemporary notes the name is mangled, with "Wilbure Wright" common among youth and doubts linger about the correct rendering "Guil beur Raett."
