Rain Ends White Sox vs Loogootee Ball Game In Rain

A rain shower cut short a sixth inning game between the White Sox and Loogootee at Loogootee last Sunday. Toon pitched well for the locals with six strikeouts and two hits allowed. Sears misplayed a grounder, allowing a run, as Loogootee scored in the sixth before rain halted play.

Vicious buggy crash injures boy on West Main Street

Tuesday evening Charles Freed drove home as a buggy shaft broke. The buggy veered and overturned into a ditch near the Toon residence. A three year old boy playing nearby was struck as the buggy collapsed, but only suffered a leg buried in mud. The soft ground from recent rain saved a fracture. The horse ran a short distance before stopping.

United Brethren Pastors Stationed Across Indiana Conference

After the eighty third session of the Indiana conference pastors were assigned for the year in Washington. Rev L L Schoonover gets the Odeon charge and Rev Schoorove returns to Odon. Rev D P L McCoy becomes field agent for Indiana Central University with family remaining in Odon. Burns City becomes Scotland with Rev Perry Key appointed. The list includes station assignments for Corydon district and Washington district with numerous pastors and vacancies noted. C E Spore and Lizzie Chappell are listed as mission and evangelist components alongside student ministers from Bonebrake Theological Seminary.

Lightning struck the John Goshorn farm barn in Steele township Sunday afternoon, causing heavy damage. A horse was killed and a mule injured. the stock was insured.

New Center of Population Shifts West in Indiana

The center of the United States population is now announced to lie in western Bloomington, Monroe County, Indiana. The move, eight miles west of the July 17 location near Unionville, results from an error by census clerks corrected by new measurements. The westward shift reflects Pacific Coast growth and marks since 1720 a total western movement of SAS miles. Metropolitan papers sent reporters to Bloomington to photograph the resident marker family.

Gravel Road Tax Levies Increased Across Townships

County commissioners adopt an ordinance fixing gravel road tax levies for townships and towns for the year. Boevard township 60 cents per S100, $6460.05. Elmore 70 cents, $11,075.20. Harrison 49 cents, $2,022.97. Veale 65 cents, $3,700. Madison 50 cents, $1,180. Steele 70 cents, $7,687.18. Barr and Montgomers/Canmerburg 60 cents, $12,836.04. Washington 60 cents, $39,515.45. Reeve and Van Buren have no gravel roads and no levy.

Miss Nelle Courtney of Washington was appointed official court stenographer for the 49th judicial circuit by Judge J. Ogdon. She took the oath Monday from Clerk W. A. Wallace and began her duties. she is the daughter of Joseph Courtney formerly from Odon.

House Destroyed by Lightning at Shively Farm

A house on the Shively farm three miles southwest of Odon was struck by lightning and burned during a Sunday electrical storm. The unoccupied home belonged to tenants who had moved a few days earlier. there was no insurance on the structure.

Quiet Wedding At Home Of Reverend Day

Harley Boyd and Axie Howard were married Sunday evening at seven o clock in the home of officiating minister Rev C M Day. The couple, both longtime residents, will live with Mr and Mrs Albert S Boyd on their farm northwest of Ordon.

Wadsworth Divorce Grants Custody and Alimony

In Daviess circuit court Mattie Wadsworth was granted a divorce from James Wadsworth with custody of their two children. The judgment awards 2500 in alimony and orders James to pay 10 a month to the clerk for child support, payments to begin in October and continue until further order. Mrs. Wadsworth is daughter of A N Singleton and is locally known. James resides at Anglesville.

Suit Dismissed in Daviess Circuit Court Divorce

John D. Hackler dismissed his divorce suit from Elizabeth E. Hackler after evidence was heard in the Daviess circuit court. Hackler is a resident of Raclesville and a well known local figure.
