Steamer Damaged After Reef Collision Off Ballard Reef
Detroit passengers aboard the steamer Taty of Cleveland from the lakes described a wreck Sunday evening as the ship struck Ballard's reef and took a hole on her bottom. Water rushed in and the vessel settled sternward while the midship deck remained above water. Many passengers were awakened by the shock and staggered to safety. some remained asleep in other berths. The Newsboy carried the passengers to Detroit where they received coin locks and other assistance. Damage estimates could not be made at present.
