The father found the rats had fled the scene after the attack as he rushed to aid his crying child.
A. T. Walker leading a 15 man government surveying party reports seven highwaymen attacked their camp six miles northwest of Grant Oklahoma Territory on Tuesday night. The robbers, unmasked whites, used Winchesters and stole 150 dollars in cash and 850 dollars in checks. He notes that since the territory’s courts gained full jurisdiction crime has become less frequent.
John Boyd Thacher of Amity New York declines the Democratic nomination for governor. He was nominated at Buffalo on September 17, and rejects the convention platform especially its Chicago platform elements. He will not stand as a candidate.
Two bank failures were reported to the state bank commissioner on Saturday, one at Argonin and the other at Tribune in Greeley county. The Tribune bank showed liabilities of 3000 dollars with a capital stock of 5 dollars, while no specific case was assigned beyond a trend of shrinking western business activity.
