Local Farmer Zacharian Garten Dies on Street

Zachariah Garten well known farmer and stock-raiser in the county died of heart failure after collapsing on Race Street near the Christian Church Sunday afternoon. He was about 70, survived by two daughters and several brothers. Funeral held at Good Hope Church with burial at Walrus Hill cemetery. Other notes include town business items and community notices.

Daviess County Launches Y M C A War Fund Drive

Daviess County and Madison township begin an ambitious drive to raise 885000. The Y M C A aims to mobilize the entire community with meetings at the M E O Church and speeches by M S M from Washington and D A Galliat of Camp Shelby. Committees led by Laughlin and A Duane pledge to push the campaign this week.

Death of Mrs Carl Burrell in Terre Haute

Mrs Carl Burrell died at Union Hospital Terre Haute from araemic poisoning after collapsing en route from Jasonville. Daughter of Emmet Aiken and Mrs Emmet Aiken Coal City, she would have been 34 next April. Wife of Dr Carl Burrell, they lived in Jasonville. Funeral at Jasonville with interment at Walnut Hill Cemetery at 2:36 today.

Son William Feller Killed in Mexico

Mrs. Harriett Feller of South Odon received a telegram Wednesday reporting her son William Feller a carpenter killed in Mexico. Authorities believe the death resulted from an accident while working at his trade. he was well known locally but had been away for several years.

Scout Notes on Liberty Loan Bonds and Tomato Crop Profit

Our troop sold 4900 in Liberty Loan Bonds with John Hayes the sole eligible scout earning ten bonds totaling 950. His name is forwarded for war service emblem. Tomato crop final payment 13081, with half to rental. troop treasury about 370.90. The troop nears two years of activity and thanks townspeople for support. Watch troop No 1 climb.
