Bod McCoy leader of the McCoy gang was killed near Lewis Camp Logan County West Virginia on the extension of the Norfolk and Western railroad by a man named Dempsey. Eighteen bullets were found in his body and others are said to have helped in the killing. McCoy had collected money from Contractor Lewis and was returning to his home on Peters Creek Kentucky. It is thought an old grudge rather than plunder prompted the killing. Excitement is high and Dempsey and associates may be captured for summary vengeance. McCoy was known to have killed eight men but always escaped punishment.
