Rate Cuts Lower Gravel Hauling Costs in Madison Township
The railway commission reduced join freight rates for gravel hauling from Gillcton to Odona to forty eight cents per yard, below the prior fifty cent maximum. Earlier, charges from Lilliston to El Nora and El Nora to Odon ranged up to eighty five and sixty cents, making road work in Madison township prohibitive. John D. Moore & Company protested as Southern Indiana had sought unfair rates, prompting the commission to further cut the maximum to fifty cents and then by another amount after investigation.
