He faced arrest and trial but claimed he made every voyage. the surviving enslaved people settled in a suburb, forming a small community governed by a locally chosen queen and living apart from others.
Ex Senator John Cope Newmyer of Pittsburgh and judge of Pennsylvania's Western District Supreme Court suddenly became insane while aboard the Western Express from Jersey City to Pittsburgh. He drew a revolver, terrified passengers, and threatened to kill a Presbyterian minister alleged to have eloped with his wife. Overpowered at Harrisburg, he was taken off the train and later sent to Pittsburgh hospital. His illness is linked to erysipelas from recent foot surgery affecting his brain. The tale of a wife elopement is unfounded. Mrs Newmyer is at home near Pittsburgh and is held in high regard.

Commonwealth's Attorney Farsons filed in the law and equity court a petition seeking suppression of the Frankfort Lottery Co. The suit names Parsons and Attorney General Sendrick as plaintiffs and 1. d., Douglas, F. Yatum and Owe Stewart as defendants. The petition argues the lottery operates under a repealed franchise and violates the new constitution which bans lotteries and gift enterprises.
