Longtime Indiana Couple Celebrates 69th Anniversary

John W. Burrell and Sarah M. McCoy celebrate their 69th wedding anniversary at Odon Indiana with six children twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren present. The couple married July 7 1853 in Quanal Dover Ohio and settled in Daviess county in 1858.

W C T U Meeting Highlights Local Unit

The Woman’s Christian Temperance Union held its last meeting on Friday July 5 1912 at the U B church. The gathering was highly successful with strong enthusiasm for the cause. The local unit lists six chief heads forty five departments and extends to over fifty nations with members from all denominations. Severe Electrical Storm Hits Town Damages Trees and Telephones

A severe electrical storm struck Monday morning around eleven o'clock. Lightning struck the M. E. church steeple, setting the building on fire but the fire department arrived quickly and extinguished the flames with no damage. Several trees were struck and telephones suffered considerable damage.

Plainville Defeats Washington Elks In Sunday Tilt

Plainville Red Sox overwhelmed the Washington Elks 4 to 1 as their pitchers and defense coalesced while Washington relied on Nolan to carry the offense. Flint rattled the Elks early, Witsman tackled balls behind the plate, and Potter starred in center field as Plainville outpaced their guests. James McPherson and Lester Routt chased a southbound train carrying Washington rooters home after a Plainville baseball game. The riders left Plainville five minutes after the train departed and arrived in Washington about ten minutes before the group they were escorting.

A seven inch live frog was pumped from the stomach of Mrs. L. King in Washington on July 6. Doctors at Emergency hospital removed the colorless specimen which died ten minutes later and is preserved in alcohol. The incident follows a swallowed animal episode reported by the patient.

A well-known farmer, Jas Hayes, and J George Bokavees took a man to an insane hospital south of town on Tuesday. Mr. Rosenberry was adjudged insane and Sheriff Harmon escorted him to Wash esday afternoon awaiting arrangements to place him in Evansville hospital.
