Fourth celebrated at many places in Washington county

The Fourth drew large crowds with roads crowded all forenoon and many visiting Eastside park. Local bands from Washington and Elmera performed at the park while residents visited Trinity Worthington or rested at home. The season’s next events include the Chautauqua starting August 5 and Old Settlers on August 18 to 20.

Little Child Dies After Sudden Illness in Washington

Niriam Roto the one year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Wendall Mumaw died last Wednesday at the county hospital in Washington after a sudden illness while visiting relatives. Funeral services were held yesterday at the Anie residence with Rev Oleaver in charge. Burial followed at Walvat Hill.

Boy Scout Cabin Remodel In Old Church Gets Underway

The Boy Scouts led by Scoutmaster Roberts and Assi Bunch are remodeling the old church about five miles east of town to serve as a summer camp. The building has been raised and a door installed with plans to re roof and add a large fireplace later. The creek nearby offers swimming and fishing, making it an ideal Scouts home and hiking base. volunteers and donations are welcomed to complete the project.

In hot conditions on Sunday at Southside park the Odon locals defeated Montgomery 11 to 9 in a slow game. Langford of the locals overcame the heat but the overall pace limited scoring and action.

Daviess County Reunion to Hear Judge Ogden at Picnic

James W. Ogden of Washington Indiana will deliver the principal address at the Daviess County Association of Indianapolis annual reunion and basket picnic in Brookside park this Sunday July 10. The event features speeches music by Laycock's orchestra games and diversions as about 2500 former Daviess County residents in Indianapolis are expected to attend. Robert Bailey serves as president Cy Ward as vice president and Mrs Ella McCord as secretary treasurer. Lilly Girdley of Burns City spent Wednesday in town.
