Mrs Rose E Watkins wife of Captain George T Watkins and owner of the steamer Watkins earned a pilot and engineer license after a spring inspection by Steamboat Inspectors in Chicago. An expert river navigator she and her husband have run an Illinois excursion service between Chicago Starved Rock and surrounding canyons for years.
