A late night blaze at the National surreal institute on Georgia Street killed at least nine and left 19 bodies recovered by Friday morning. Rescue workers saved several women and children, aided by ladders, while caregivers and volunteers aided victims. remaining names and totals were not fully confirmed due to locked records.

Cincinnati January 27 reports say a blaze in the Bromwell brush shop and the city workhouse laundry caused major losses. Bromwell Co. about £60,005, Dickerman $4,000, city $1,000. Six hundred prisoners and attendants faced chaos and fear as flames spread near the prison, though the core cell blocks were spared.
