Seventh to Thirteenth district committeemen from Indiana meet Tuesday in the city to organize the state committee and select a chairman and secretary. Charles S. Hennig of Newcastle is expected to win by acclamation for chairman. Several candidates enter the secretary race, promising an interesting contest.
Rochester Ind Jan 26 The Commercial Bank at Silver Lake Kosciusko county was robbed Thursday night of 3500 nitroglycerin charges used to blast open the safe. Robbers fired at a pursuing posse of citizens then fled toward North Manchester on a hand car. Clerk William Price was seriously wounded and the bandit gang eluded capture as a Columbus City pursuit closed in. Authorities believe the same gang linked to northern Indiana depredations.
In Frankfort Kentucky a violent lobby confrontation at the Capital Hotel escalated into a shootout. Ex congressman Dave Colson and Ethel Scott were among those involved with Scott killed and several others wounded. Witnesses report chaotic scenes as shots rang out in the lobby and up the stairs.
A mass meeting in the American capital expressed support for the Boer cause, rejecting British actions and urging U S sympathy.
