Joseph Morrison an Island coal mine No 5 employee earned 118 dollars and 19 cents in eleven days of coal mining. Morrison with 28 years of experience is an expert miner. The Call notes the new mine offered favorable conditions, ample cars, and frequent blasting, with oil and powder expenses of over 12 dollars subtracting from the gross.
Will Hubbard returns to tollinois Monday as telephone fever rages. Thomas Wadsworth Jr. of Eaglesville visits Tuesday. Fron hers attend a party at Wid Jackson's Friday night. Tuesday night the Junior clans entertained high school members in honor of Claud Danner who leaves Sunday for Florida. Invitations went to Profa McConnell and Mayfield. The evening featured flinch and other games plus dancing, with Mrs. Wm. Pensinger at the piano and refreshments of ice cream and cake served.
Hattie Anderson daughter of Dr and Mrs J W Anderson died suddenly Saturday morning from spinal meningitis at age two years and three months. The funeral service was led by Presiding Elder Clippinger and Rev A M Couchman at the M E church Monday morning with burial at Walnut Hill.
Herchel Smiley, charged with attempting to kill Girover Matthewson at Riverside last spring, was acquitted in a Washington circuit court last week. The incident began when Matthewson and Jin Pobbs attacked Smiley at Riverside, and Smiley shot Matthewson after being tossed into a pond. Matthewson, a grown man, recovered from the wound in weeks.
