Schoolhouse Burned North Coast District Destruction and Loss

The No. toor Bricker schoolhouse seven miles north coast of Caden was destroyed by fire by Tuesday morning. The blaze started in the floor, likely from the stove. a janitor had lit it earlier and left. Bucket brigade formed, but firefighters could not save the building or contents. Desks, a boatcase with envelopes, and about 8250 worth of books were lost. Walls and bricks suffered, insurance was 350. Trustee McCallan will arrange replacements. Elmer Yor teaches there, with the district lacking a nearby school for children.

School Building Burned Near Plainville in Steele

The Hinkle school in Steele township near Otterbein burned Friday morning. Pupils were reassigned to Clark and Phataville schools after the abandonment of Hinkle due to low attendance. The building was insured for 400, but total loss to building and contents is about 700. a previous fire on the same site occurred eighteen years ago.

Saturday Brims With Shopping At Odop Stores

Crowds thronged the Odop merchants on Saturday as shoppers packed stores and shelves emptied of holiday goods. Vendors offered a wide assortment and ready stock, drawing in out of town visitors to participate in the season’s trading bustle.
