Walsh Coal Mines Change Hands in Major Indiana Deal
A deed filed with County Recorder Hoermann transfers all John R. Walsh holdings in Indiana Southern and Southern Indiana Coal to Alliance Coal Company of Chicago for 1.5 million dollars. The deal covers about 65 000 acres across Vigo, Clay, Sullivan and Greene Counties including eighteen major mines. Walsh, once a leading banker and promoter, was imprisoned after misappropriation charges, now contesting in federal court.
