Concrete piles cast with steel reinforcement are driven by a pile driver in minutes. Water under pressure clears sand and dirt as the pile sinks, with sand and water sometimes squirting above the surface. The piles resist rot and disintegration unlike wood.
Dr J T Scott of Indianapolis spoke for visitors as sixty Lebanon citizens joined Samuel M Ralston in a festive dedication banquet. Ralston shared horse talk and politics, praising the cooks and noting the event as a first, memorable social dedication in town.
Odon Indiana July 31 1907 members of Venus Lodge No 337 draft resolutions praising the late William Harris. They note his service in the order and vow to record their appreciation and support to his bereaved family with copies to the lodge minutes Tur Onon Journal and to the family.
F G Lutes wed a widow named Shively at Terre Haute in a ceremony marking his fourth marriage. Lutes previously lived in Daviess county where he served as county recorder for one term. Shively is long established in the city’s east end.
Mrs Florence A Geeting widow of former county superintendent files in federal court at Indianapolis against Mutual Reserve Fund Life of New York. She alleges the insurer refuses to pay $3000 on the policy on her husband David M Geeting who had named Lettie Geeting as beneficiary and later named Florence as beneficiary by endorsement. The suit seeks the policy face value of $3000.
An auction notice refers to the sale of A. L. Hulett’s goods described as best quality and nearly new. The exact date is indicated in the ad and appears to be published in another location of the same notice.
Miss Olive Myers was at Washington on Monday. Visitors include Mr and Mrs James Williams of Black Oak with Leo Williams and family. Mr and Mrs John Goshorn near Plainville with William Patterson and family. A picnic at Plainville attracted locals. births include a son to Leo and wife on August 3. Dr C T Yellone of Washington called locally Sunday.
Russell Far Wilson is on the sick list. Joan Slastings and wife visited C. L. Courtney and wife. Wm. Smeltzer and family visited John Kinnaman and family. Wm. Fitzgibbon and sister of Washington were guests of Dan Rhea bottoms and wife. Lula Kirk of near Oden visits her sister Mrs. Samuel McCain. Myrtle Courtney visited her parents Dan Courtney and wife last week. William Seneff and wife of Elnora spent Sunday with John Killian and wife. Zack Phillips visited Martin county to see his parents. Dr. Fitzgibbons of Washington was here Tuesday.
The annual Daviess county socialist picnic was held at Wadsworth grove two miles south of Eaglesville on Sunday. Dr. Hollingsworth and S. A. Reynold of Terre Haute delivered the address of the day. Several locals attended.
The county commissioners sold four gravel road extensions with the Jason Tazirhurst road going to Amos Musselman for 1632 dollars as the lowest bid. Other bids included Thomas Sears 1750 John McCullough 1650 and Samuel Shufflebarger 31640. The Stoy petition in Madison went to Samuel Shuffleburger for 4690 dollars with bids from H H Crooke 4720 C E B O Dell 4750 and Thomas Sears 4700. M H Wilson secured the Coyle petition in Barr for 7521.80 dollars and the Alex Moore petitions in Washington township for 1840 dollars as the sole bidder.
Indiana officials pursue broader tax assessments on Standard Oil properties including refining plants in Whiting and pipelines. Lake County probes hidden assets and new properties, with several hundred thousand dollars in increased assessments and multiple Standard subsidiaries now facing taxation. The board insists all Standard assets be taxed fairly despite company objections.
