The Republican parties in Daviess County hold mass township conventions to elect delegates for the County Convention. Wellington 35 delegates, Veale 9, Reere 3, Horriae 6, Laer ownstie 1, Vuaburen gowaship 5, Midmon [[missing]] delegates, Elmore 7, Stele townships 6, Bogart 1, Palekegate and alter pale. County convention to meet at Washington on August 11 to nominate candidates for Judicial and Senatorial races.

The sketch recalls John E Hayes born December 12 1835 in Coshocton County Ohio. He enlisted in the 27th Indiana Infantry and fought at Winchester Cedar Mountain Gettysburg Chancellorsville and more, later helping suppress draft riots in New York and serving through the Atlanta Savannah campaign and the Appomattox surrender. He died after a long illness, remembered as a devout Christian and honorable patriot.
