Farmers and Merchants Bank in Clay City Indiana was entered at 2 am by robbers who blew open the vault and took 5800. The assault destroyed bank front and damaged the vault, walls, and ceiling. Hinges and debris flew into a nearby saloon. Insurance covers the cash. property partially insured. Bank reopened by 10 am as investigators search for suspects.
In Kokomo Indiana on April 21 Judge Elliott granted Mrs Elmer Crume the divorce and custody of their baby. Crume seized the child and fled the courthouse with the infant. Sheriff Stanbro and Bailiff Trees pursued but were unable to stop them. The Crumes are described as wealthy.
Coroner held an inquest in Weisburg Indiana after two laborers were found dead along the Big Four railroad tracks. Authorities deduce the men were killed at a construction camp and laid on the track to obscure the crime.
Willie Harris, an 18 year old from Du Quoin Illinois, is reported as the fattest boy on earth. He weighs 800 pounds and stands five feet four inches tall with a 71 inch waist and a 67 inch chest. Other measurements include 41 inch thighs and 22 inch calves.
In Brazil Indiana on April 22 bakers raise loaf size by three ounces and push wholesale price from 3 1/4 to 4 cents a loaf. Grocers refuse to buy the bread elevating a local price dispute between two trades.
In Brownsville Indiana on April 22 the local post office was burgled for the second time in three months. Entry was gained through a window and a small amount of change was stolen while an attempt to blow the safe failed.
Mrs. W. F. Sage of Cleves Ohio died in a sleeping car en route to Indianapolis and relatives hoped to see her before death. The April 23 report notes she hurried home to reunite with friends and kin as the train sped toward the city.
A large Cinnamon bear roams woods near North Manchester Indiana on April 21. It has killed more than a dozen pigs and is thought to have escaped from a winter quarters of a show.
Richmond Ind April 22 Parker forces in Wayne county won a signal victory over Hearst followers. A 26 member delegation for district and state Democratic conventions included 17 Parker men, marking a clear advantage in the local contest.
In Marion Indiana on April 22 a daring crime occurred as a robber fired the derrick owned by oil operator E L Black and after fleeing his home at night entered the residence and stole money clothing diamonds and jewelry.
The Indiana Bituminous Coal Operators association calls a Terre Haute meeting for April 23 to review tax valuation methods. Operators argue that coal quantity and quality cannot be fixed before development, aim to persuade the state board of review to abolish current methods. Probate Commissioner Walker overruled objections and allowed the claim saying the wallpaper cost may seem high but suits a residence like Gen Harrison's.
Indianapolis detectives have arrested A. C. Babcock on charges of defrauding Knights of Pythias relief committees. The scheme allegedly spanned St. Louis Cincinnati Wheeling Louisville and other large cities. Babcock's wife accompanied him and claims ignorance of how he obtained the money until his arrest. She says her parents are well to do people in Prestonville Kentucky.
B F Clemens ex editor of Wabash county was killed instantly on his farm in Pleasant township when his wagon loaded with boulders toppled off the road. His wife saw the accident and freed him but he died. He was 63, a Spanish American War captain, former state senator and Republican convention delegate. He leaves a widow and a son.
Indianapolis April 22 President Broderick of the Elkhart bank was given ten years and cashier Collins six years for altering the bank’s books. Brown received eight years and Collins accompanied by his wife left for Leavenworth to begin serving his sentence.
Prof. Alexander A M Wilson of Purdue will be assistant professor of electrical engineering at Kentucky State College in Lexington. Prof. Severance Burrage of Purdue will head the department of hygiene and sanitary science for the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St Louis.

Marion Ind April 23 The girls of Jonesboro high school have organized a baseball team and are practicing for the opening of the season. The uniform which will probably be adopted will consist of divided skirts.
Emmet Whities, 31, died in minutes after taking strychnine on Thursday in Marton Indiana. Officials say failed reconciliation with his mother, brother, and sweetheart caused the act.
Washington April 22 The senate executive session confirmed nominations for Indiana postmasters and named John A. Han Cicero Hemlin Smith Brownstown Flug S Espey Rising Sun to fill offices, amid a tied confirmation vote.
