Community items recount visits and gatherings across Odon and nearby towns. Notables include Miss Margaret Threldkele in Ed wardsport guest of Mr and Mrs Ernest Dobbins, and Mrs Mamie Brown visiting Bedford relatives. Several trips to Indianapolis and Bloomington noted, plus school events and town road improvements.
Aikmans Creek Church hosted the funeral of W M Gilley who was shot dead in Washington last Thursday night by Berry Hudson. The service drew an estimated seven to ten thousand mourners with more than fourteen hundred cars, as Knights of the Ku Klux Klan in full regalia participated after the ceremony. The Masonic rite preceded the burial, led by the Washington Masonic Lodge, with Rev C J Grimes and Rev I S McIver officiating.
Sunday services held at Union Chappel with 9:30 and 10:30 sessions. Local residents, including Mr and Mrs Wm Kinnaman of Oden and Mr and Mrs H M Connell with Bernice, visited friends such as Fred Boyd and the Herron family. Several people traveled to Ve Olive church and others moved or hosted relatives across Odon, Bedford, Linton, Farlen, Burns City, Eaglesville, and nearby homes.
Scots and neighbors share Sunday visits across families including Aishe Callahan Henderson and Trueblood groups. Mentions Edna Richardson Jim Graham Mack Flynn and Mollie Henderson with Hendersons in Odon Otterbein College visits and a Biennial Women’s Missionary event in the U B church.
The community marks the end of the school year with Baccalaureate and Commencement at the First Christian Church. Rev Shake delivered the sermon to an audience of over 600, while Oscar E Kelley of Terre Haute spoke on The Modern Education of Youth. A strong program accompanied both ceremonies.
Mrs Wadsworth remains ill at home southwest of Raglesville while Tom Riggins health worsens. Dr Hays attends Stella Sims in Burns City. Cavnesss recover from flu as Wadsworth relatives visit. Wadsworths and Ziglers share a Sunday gathering. A heavy rain with hail fell Monday morning. Curtis Smiley plans to move after school and Clark family visits from the capital. T G Wadsworth travels to Beehunter for business. Continuous spring farming activity noted.
