Verdon Storm Killed in Railway Accident Near Burns City

Verdon Storm formerly of Burns City died after a locomotive derailed at St Bernice last Thursday. He was trapped under the engine, badly burned, and died around 10:30 the following day. Engineman John Wires survived with minor injuries. Storm, married to Ethel Vickers then to Bessie Sultz, leaves a wife, a daughter, parents, a brother Vernon and many relatives. Funeral at Burns City Methodist with Masonic and Brotherhood participation. burial in Burns City cemetery.

Board of Health Notice Urges Clean Town Ahead of Typhoid Threat

The notice requests residents to collect rubbish in a convenient place for pickup and to clean closets, barns, and pens. Hogs should be moved outside corporation limits within three weeks in April as required by law to prevent an epidemic this summer.

Death of Infant Son Thomas Jolliff Child

Max Jolliff aged about one year died after a brief illness last Tuesday. Born April 24 1920 he was the son of Mr and Mrs Thomas Jolliff. Funeral services were held at the M E church in Newberry with Rev McMurtry and Rev Hughes presiding. Burial followed in Scotland Cemetery.

Junior Class Banquet Held At The Auditorium

The OH.S junior class held its regular banquet last evening in the auditorium. The event featured a fine program by the boys and a delicious menu from the girls with sandwiches baked beans salads pickles pie angel food cake and coffee. Tables were decorated in old rose and Pekin blue. the class has sixteen members.

Pearl McClellan Butcher Dies in Indianapolis

Mrs Pearl McClellan Butcher formerly of Odon died at her West Indianapolis home on Tuesday April 5 after over a year of failing health She leaves a father and mother Mr and Mrs John McClellan four brothers Jim Clarence Frank and Bill all of Indianapolis a husband and a four year old son Paul and many friends mourn her loss.

Mary M. Brunson Dies at 68 After Illness

Mary M. Brunson, long time resident of this county, died at her son Leo Brunson's home from a complication of diseases led by neuralgia of the heart. Born February 20, 1853 in Gibson County, she leaves four children Willard H. Brunson Leo C Brunson Mauce Savilah and Mabel Arminda plus two brothers and two sisters and eleven grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Veale cemetery near Washington after a short home service conducted by Rev. Cleaver.

Fairview Gardens A Pleasurable Little Trip To Elnora

A reader warns of the delightful Fairview Gardens at Elnora owned by Oscar P. Hackler. The gardens have grown from a small local trade to a large operation shipping to most states, with nine thousand asparagus ferns sold this season. The greenhouses, managed by Mr and Mrs Ira Warren, are praised as among the best kept in the country and visitors are warmly welcomed.
