Ex offender escapes San Quentin as manhunt widens
Eduardo Mariscal, a 31 year old sex offender, escaped from San Quentin State Prison before dawn. Authorities initially arrested his brother by mistake and later recovered a blanket and gloves near the razor wire. The hunt focuses on Marin and Sonoma counties as investigators verify the escape details. Mariscal had a May 1994 sex crime conviction and a tentative July 2001 release date. The prison, California's oldest, houses about 5,850 inmates.
