VA tightens rules for free medical care
The Veterans Administration plans to require poverty verification for non service related care, cutting free treatment for many veterans by year end. Under new rules, care will be free only for those under 15,000 in spendable income or whose expenses exceed costs, leaving about 3.15 million eligible previously. Veterans groups decry the change as harsh while officials cite budget pressures and admin costs.
