A tanker overturned Friday on Highway 67 north of Alpine blocking the road between Interstate 10 and Highway 90. Traffic delays were reported as first responders secured the scene and vehicles were diverted. No injuries were immediately reported.
The report lists aggravated assault near East 38th and East 42nd streets and at Oakwood Drive, a firearm taken in a family violence case on North Grandview, and a BB gun wound in North Jackson Avenue. Burglaries include a drive thru window at Long John Silver’s and a home invasion at Fitch Avenue. A man on West County Road is charged with possession of a controlled substance. A Honda dirt bike was stolen in North Golden Avenue. Ray Bustamante released on bond.
Odessa Police Chief Tim Burton refused to discuss disciplinary actions after three officers, including Sgt. Mike Anaya, were moved from the Narcotics Unit to another unit in a May 18 memo. The Odessa American obtained the memo via open records request and awaits further department clarification under Texas Open Records Act rules.
Leroy Flores Alaniz, 54, stands charged with murder and capital murder in the 1991 beating death outside Party House Lounge in Fort Worth. Rickey Lovell Taylor, linked to the 2009 shooting of Johnny Lee Mackey, faces trial as he remains committed after a 2011 mental health evaluation and eventual competency ruling. Jury selection for both cases is scheduled for early Tuesday.
