In Austin the Lone Star Council introduces The Edge, a first technology curriculum for Girl Scouts ages 6 to 17, tackling gender gaps in math science and computing. The program aims to reach 13 500 local members and expand globally with planned permanent facilities funded to 10.3 million dollars.

Wildfires across Texas expanded to about 15 000 acres in East Texas as dry windy weather doubled their size. Florida volunteers assisted, aiding Texas crews near the Louisiana border and other blazes statewide. Kerrville evacuees returned as the largest fire nears 80 percent containment. 13 000 acre McFaddin refuge blaze stands at 95 percent. Since July 16, 27 homes destroyed and 1 500 threatened. 905 fires have burned nearly 50 000 acres.
