Surge in scooter injuries prompts safety warnings
The Consumer Product Safety Commission reports nearly 10,000 Americans booked in with scooter injuries this year, with over 4,000 cases in August. Most injuries are cuts and sprains, but a third are broken bones, mainly in arms and hands. Children under 15 comprise about 90 percent of cases. Hospitals largely released patients, and no deaths have occurred. Experts urge helmet, wrist guards, and knee and elbow pads.
