Cockroaches Join Glenn in Space Test on Discovery
Glenn and his crew host about 85 cockroaches at NASA's Space Shuttle Discovery cargo bay for a bioscience experiment. DuVal High School students raised three adults three nymphs and three egg cases to study survival and reproduction in microgravity, aiming to compare effects of aging and zero gravity on living beings. They note roaches have existed 350 million years and can endure extreme environments, while roaches in space raise questions about reproduction absent gravity.

Ex Army sergeant charged with terror links in bin Laden case
Ali Mohamed, 46, an Egyptian native who served in the U.S. Army, was secretly arrested last month and is under investigation on charges related to training Islamic militants tied to Osama bin Laden. Prosecutors allege he supplied tapes, books, and techniques to young men aiding Afghan rebels, with links to embassies attacked in Africa and other U.S. targets. The arrest followed August embassy bombings in Tanzania and Kenya, and Mohamed was discharged from the Army in 1989 after serving at Fort Bragg teaching special forces about Muslim culture.
