Social Security to rise 3.5 percent next year in big COLA
The 45.2 million beneficiaries will see an average $29 monthly increase as inflation climbs led by energy costs. Payments begin January with SSI up 3.5 percent to $530 for individuals and $796 for couples. Medicare premiums rise to $50, effective January 1, 2001.
